About: Equipment for Snorkeling

Proper quality and fit are extremely important when selecting your equipment. (Photo © Scott Pearson Photography.)

Both snorkeling and skin diving require a certain amount of equipment for you to venture into the water comfortably.

Some of the gear is considered basic and essential to participate in the sport. Other items are considered accessories; although for diving in cold water you may feel that a wetsuit is essential, and you would be right!

Most diving instructors agree that the basic gear required to view sights from the surface and/or explore underwater would include the following items:

  • Mask
  • Snorkel
  • Fins

If you select quality gear for snorkeling, this equipment can almost always be used for skin or scuba diving as well. Buy good quality equipment and it will last you for many years.
